Do not fear, the story ends well – The law is not the true substance!

Christ set is free from all the demands of the law

Christ set us free from ALL the demands of the law

This topic is one that keeps reoccurring in my heart so much lately when I interact with others and share the powerful and amazing TRUTH of the Gospel.  Often a person is confused (like I was too) as to why God was so angry and wrathful in the Old Testament under the Law of Moses.

One of the most wonderful things that God has done to set me free from a false understanding of the Old testament, was to show me the single key that unlocks all of it.

That’s right.  First we must realize that Christ himself arrived and told us that “no one has seen the father” except the son.  This is an amazing statement considering all the people in the Old Testament who claimed to have “seen God”.   Look at these powerful scriptures:

No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father John 6:46

And the Father who sent Me, He has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time nor seen His form  John 5:37

No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him  John 1:18

No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us 1 John 4:12-13

who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen  1 Timothy 6:16

Isn’t that amazing?

Do you ever wonder who the “God of Israel” was that Moses and the elders saw on Mt. Sinai in Exodus 24:9-11?  I believe I know and want to share with you soon.  I am building some foundation for it.

Christ Finished the Work and Totally Fulfilled the Law for All People

In addition to the fact that Christ is the true revelation of the father, we must understand a second very important point.  His work that he totally finished at the cross begins to unlocks ALL of the Old Testament and he reveals the truth to us.  From within our hearts, HE teaches us to look past the false realm of the physical, carnal world and into the true realm of the spirit.  One thing we must remember is that ALL the Old Testament is shown to us through the single lens of the Covenant of law or “Law of Moses”.  Our entire physical world and realm is under the law but lacks the substance to fulfill the law.  This is called the “Curse”.  Is the lens of the Law the “truth reality” or the truth?

The law alone is not the true reality or the “truth”!

It’s only an image of or pointer (shadow) to the truth.  It contains parts of the truth, but not the whole truth.  Thus, it alone is NOT the truth.   Anything that is not the full truth is not the truth at all.

The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming–not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship Hebrews 10:1

(My friend this verse is deep and will feed you MUCH life when God reveals it to you.  I want desperately to talk on and on about the second half, but that will totally bring me off point!)

Does this make the law sin?  NO, but it does point out sin and reveal it.  Romans 7:7  In a strange paradox, the law itself is not sin, but man trying to live UNDER it IS because the “law is not of faith” Galatians 3:12 and “anything not of faith is sin”.  Romans 14:23

In short, the entire Old Covenant of law and entire Old testament was not the true reality or the truth.  It is like a shadow that you try to grab ahold of but can not.  Only the item standing in the light that is casting the shadow is the truth substance or true reality but the shadow is not.  So, what is our “true substance”?  We will see shortly.

The law is also like the foam that comes up to the top of the glass when you pour new soda fast.  It isn’t the soda and you can’t really drink it.  It’s only some soda, but mostly air.  The true substance is the liquid down in the cup.

In a strange paradox, the law itself is not sin, but man trying to live UNDER it IS because the “law is not of faith” (Galatians 3:12) and “anything not of faith is sin” (Romans 14:23)

So, what is our true substance?    It’s more like “who” is our true substance or true reality?  Who is the one who completes and fulfills the law thus showing us the true reality?

Why do need to not STOP at the end of the Old Testament, but must read on into the New?

things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ Colossians 2:17

For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ John 1:17

My friend.  It can not be stated any simpler than this.   “The Old Covenant Law alone is NOT the truth”.  Christ is the truth and he totally fulfilled the requirements of the law for all mankind.  Adam and Eve were created incomplete without Christ and God put them under law to reveal this to them (and all of us!)  Christ or the “last Adam” is the completion of Adam!  1 Corinthians 15:45

Christ is the Fulfillment of ALL the Law and is the Truth

This is the foundation that we need to have whenever we look at the God of the Old Testament.   All the death and destruction and wrath from him is not the true reality or the truth.  It is an incomplete picture or reality of the true God.  We were not seeing God through the correct lens of Christ and his total fulfillment of the law!

Do you know that Christ has actually made the law obsolete and removed it?

When He said, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. But whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to disappear Hebrews 8:13

That is what the Bible really says my friend.  The first covenant of Law was made obsolete by Jesus.   Look at what Hebrews 10:9 says.

then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will.” He takes away the first in order to establish the second Hebrews 10:9

My friend, please hear these words.  Jesus took away the entire system of law.  He established in the hidden and true spiritual realm, the one TRUE Covenant of grace and peace.  How many people do you know who do not know this?  How many Churches are teaching us to be under the Ten Commandments?  They do not yet see the powerful truth.  God is revealing it to us now.   The Old Covenant of law was not the truth or true reality.  Only Christ is.

Remember, Christ is the exact and perfect representation of God himself.  If we are seeing a God that is NOT like the Christ we know it is NOT THE ONE TRUE GOD!

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation  Colossians 1:15

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven  Hebrews 1:3

This is very powerful my friend for us to see into the DEEPER and true realities of the Old Testament. The Bible is first and foremost a spiritual book and we must not see it from a natural, physical, law-based perspective.  We must look past the things we can see, feel and touch and realize all were under law in the Old Covenant.  What else do we know about anything under law?

We must remember that anything under law that is NOT GOD HIMSELF, must die!

The wages of sin is always death and God himself is the only one who does not sin.  Since God can’t lie and is just he has two choices:

1) Kill everyone

2) Fulfill the law for everyone so they get a “free pass”.

I would love to say he just does the second, but that would not be the truth.  Technically, he does both.  All do die in Adam but he has a wonderful surprise for all.   The story is a LOVE story with a beautiful ending.  He loves us immensely.

For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive 1 Corinthians 15:22

So, my friend, no matter how scary the story “appears” at times you must “begin with the end in mind”.  The end is Christ and he has fulfilled all the demands of the law for all of mankind. God’s wrath is satisfied.  We will still all die in our physical bodies, but that is not the end.  You know how the story ends.   No reason to be afraid.

It’s time to Rejoice!  Celebrate!  Tell everyone you know.

The story ends WELL as Christ has totally fulfilled the law for ALL PEOPLE!  He completed all of Adam.  He is the last Adam that will ever exist.

God bless.
