Is Genesis 2:4 one of the most Powerful verses in the Bible?

Genesis 1 creation

Does Genesis 2:4 reveal more that we realize?

Yesterday I shared about the powerful transition and change of point of view between Genesis 1 and 2.

Have you noticed this?

You can review that writing here.

This powerful transition occurs in one single verse – Genesis 2:4. I believe this verse is one of the most powerful verses in all of the Bible because it has so many transitions in it.

I believe if we can understand and see this truth, it will unlock man’s current situation better than ever before. Genesis and our current, daily life will begin to make amazing sense.

Let’s look at the verse, but before we do please allow me to share something personal about myself.  I am a technical person in my outer man or my natural, earthly person.  I study and look into deep, abstract, technical truths in my earthly work.  I am basically a “computer detective” looking into complex technological problems until the truth appears and I find a solution to “fix” a person’s issue.  Nothing is “too crazy” in my line of work.  I have to keep an open mind and always be willing for “anything to be possible”.  If I am closed-minded, I will miss the answer or “truth” when it appears.    Many people are not able to fix computer problems as they are not given the gift of abstract thinking.  Some simply don’t want to do the work themselves.  Still others don’t have an open mind to “anything is possible” to see a “fix” or “answer”.

I believe that is why so many struggle to understand the Bible.  But, this can all be overcome if we keep at it and ask God to help us.  We really can’t do any of it unless he does it in and through us.  That is the mystery.

God’s Word is abstract and not based in this current reality that we can “see” with our human eyes and touch with our human hands.   We must also be open to the reality of “anything being possible”.  Finally, we have to be willing to look into everything we are told and find it ourselves first in the written Word and then (and most importantly) in the LIVING Word who is inside our hearts.  We can’t take man’s word for it, even mine.  I am a normal, everyday flawed human being on the outside just like everyone else.  My goal however, is to show you that God’s Word says ALL are included and he loves all people the same whether they “believe” or not.  After all, God “is” love (1 John 4:8) and “love never fails” right? 1 Cor 13:8.

So, if God failed to “save” one person, does that not make these scriptures untrue?

We must keep learning, keep digging, keep asking and keep thinking on our own with an open mind.  According to scripture, it’s ok for us to listen to all things and all people, but we need to learn discernment from our own hearts what is truth.  So many have not (yet) learned how to do this because they have been taught to fear “the enemy”.  If only we knew who Satan really is, we would not worry one bit about him.   He is God’s servant tasked with carrying out the law perfectly.

I pray that you will look into ALL the things I share and say and come to your own conclusions based on your study of God’s Word.  Please don’t solely take my word for it without looking at the scriptures and original words and listen to your heart inside based on what you know about God’s goodness.  I believe it is God himself speaking to you in his Son, the “last Adam” called “Christ”.  He wants to reveal his amazing GOODNESS to us all and we will.  But, first he may have to expose some things we believe about him that are not true.  This is the first step to restoration and it isn’t always pleasant.  But it is very good in the end.

Thus, this will not always “feel” good, but it is truly God doing his work to reveal truth and life to us.  He works like a master surgeon removing the damaged tissue so the living tissue can flourish.

We just have to be willing to keep asking questions, keep digging and keep searching until we find him within our own hearts.  Gal 1:16  He won’t disappoint us as he promises that “If we knock the door will be opened” and “if we seek, we shall find”.   I realize that God’s Word is very deep, but if you keep looking, it or rather “he” will appear.  That will be ONE joyous day for you my friend.  If I can help in any way, please let me know as I consider it a great honor to help anyone find Christ in their own heart.  They will never be the same again as they found their real, true self and true life inside.  Gal 2:20

So, let’s look at what I believe is one of the most POWERFUL verses of the bible.

This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created (Strong’s #1254), in the day that the Lord God made (Strong’s #6213)  earth and heaven Genesis 2:4 NASB

If a person studies this verse and reviews the original words, they will soon see there is a LOT of spiritual meat here. It’s a blending of many different concepts and realms into one sentence.

First, notice that God’s name changes from simply God or “Elohim” (Strong’s #430) in Genesis 1 to “Lord God” or the combination of Yhvh usually spelled “Yahweh” (Strong’s #3068) and elohim (Strong’s #430) or simply “God” or even “Gods”. God has added the name “Lord” to his name which indicates we are going deeper into lower, law-based realms.  The name “Lord” is directly tied to the law and it is the Lord who gave the Israelites the Law.

Second, notice the active verbs. The first verb is “created” which is the word “bara'” which is Strong’s #1254. If you study this word, you will find it is a powerful occurrence which means in essence a one-time spiritual birth. There are very few things in the Bible that are born or created using this word. Genesis 1 only contains 3 things that are spiritual born or “birthed” using the word bara’.

  1. The Heavens and The Earth of Genesis 1:1  (Please notice “the” in front of them here)
  2. The great sea monster of Genesis 1:21
  3. Man in Genesis 1:27  (Notice this word is NOT used in 1:26.  We will see why shortly.)

When something is “born” spiritually speaking using the word “bara”, it is the highest possible realm of the spirit. Everything else is “made”, “shaped” or “formed” which is type, form or representation of this one spiritual thing.

So, if we go back to Genesis 2:4 and look at the verse again we see we are being reminded again that “the” heavens and “the” earth were created or spiritually birthed. This is basically a reminder of Genesis 1:1. This is a one time spiritual birth. Please notice “the” in front of them. There is only ONE of these each and they are a spiritual creation.

Now, look at the last half of the verse where it says “in the day that the Lord God made (Strong’s #6213) earth and heaven“.

Do you see that the active verb changes from “created” (Strong’s #1254) to “made” which is Strong’s #6213?

Do you see that the “the” is now missing from “heaven” and “earth”?  These are not the same “the Heavens” and “the earth” that was created or spiritually birthed in the first part of the verse and Genesis 1:1.  They are merely a “form” or “version” or “generation” of them.

Friend, this is HUGE as God is performing a powerful transition here and we must stop and see what is going on.

We are moving from a higher realm spiritual creation that was “birthed” in Genesis 1 into a lower realm soul-realm creation that is being “formed” or “made” or “shaped” in Genesis 2. We can see that because look at Genesis 1:2. What does it say?

The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters Genesis 1:2

The earth was FORMLESS. Even though it was spiritually created or “birthed” in Genesis 1:1 “in the beginning” it still had no form or shape to it in the lower realms. This is what begins to occur in Genesis 2. We move down into the lower spiritual realm of the soul. The active word changes from “bara'” (Strong’s #1254) or spiritual birthing to “asah” Strong’s #6213 which means to “make” “do”, “form”, or “bring about”. In essence, the one item that is created or birthed via “bara” in Genesis 1 could be considered the “master template” but the item “made” or “asah” from it is simply a version of the master template.

This is so important to see.

The word “account” gives it away. It is a form of the word “toledoth” which is Strong’s #8435.

This word really means “GENERATIONS“!

Here are the other 8 places where the word appears and I will highlight the word in the verse in red so you can see how it was translated there.

This is the book of the generations (toledoth) of Adam. In the day when God created man, He made him in the likeness of God Gen 5:1

These are the records of the generations toledoth of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his time; Noah walked with God Gen 6:9

Now these are the records of the generations of Shem, Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah; and sons were born to them after the flood Gen 10:1

These are the records of the generations of Shem. Shem was one hundred years old, and became the father of Arpachshad two years after the flood Gen 11:10

Now these are the records of the generations of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran; and Haran became the father of Lot Gen 11:27

Now these are the records of the generations of Isaac, Abraham’s son: Abraham became the father of Isaac Gen 25:19

Now these are the records of the generations of Aaron and Moses at the time when the Lord spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai Numbers 3:1

Now these are the generations of Perez: to Perez was born Hezron Ruth 4:18

As you can see the word “toledoth” which is Strong’s #8435 is translated as “the generations” in 8 of the 9 places it appears. However, in Genesis 2:4 it is translated (by man) as “the account”. Friend, that is not the truth. How can we do that? How can we translate it one way 8 times but then translate it totally different ONE TIME?

We can’t. It has to mean “the generations”. God is always consistent and he doesn’t change. Man simply could not understand now the translation of “the generations” fit into Genesis 2:4. But, that doesn’t mean he should translate it differently, does it?

God’s Word reveals that Genesis 2:4 with a proper translation really says “This is the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created“.

That’s right. There were and are multiple “generations” or “versions” of the heavens and the earth. There is one “master”, spiritual template if you will which is referred to in Genesis 1:1, but there are multiple “forms” of that one master. It is the same with Adam himself as you can see in Genesis 5. Jesus is revealed as the “last Adam” who we know as “Noah”. After Jesus there were be no more generations or “versions” of Adam. It is the same with “the” heaven and “the” earth. There is only one of these, but they have multiple “generations” or “forms”. They are named “heaven” and “earth”.

Did you notice that the “the” was missing?

That is how we miss it. “Heaven” is a version, form or generation of the one, single, master named “the heavens”. “Earth” is a (shadow) version, form or “generation” of the one, single master already named “the earth”. God reveals this to us in other places that Heaven and Earth will be changed and new/true versions and forms of them will appear in the lower realms of earth and the soul.

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away Matt 24:35

Notice there is no “the” in front of them? This is merely the current form or “version” of the one single spiritual “the” heavens and “the” earth that will disappear. God reveals these versions are only a “shadow” of the one true version found only in Christ himself.

For the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come and not the very form of things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near Hebrews 10:1

Our current version of heaven and earth called “the world” is under law which is why it will perish. This is because it is only a “shadow” version and not the one, true form or spiritual version who is only found in Christ himself.

These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ Col 2:17

God again reveals to us in 2 Peter 3:7 that the present heavens and earth will be die and be replaced. They are but a mere “generation” or shadow version or “form” of the one true “the Heaven’s” and “the Earth” found in Christ and birthed in Genesis 1:1.

But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men 2 Peter 3:7

Once this occurs, then we will see a new and TRUE Heaven and new and TRUE Earth. The one, true, spiritual version found only in Christ.

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea Rev 21:1>

One of the generations of heaven and earth died and a new one replaced them. This will be a true version of both of these without any “sea’. The “sea” is man’s soul fallen soul which will no longer be. Man will truly be one with God then.

I hope you are beginning to hear and see from within the big picture of what God is revealing to us in Genesis 1 and 2 because of what was later revealed in Jesus Christ. I believe Genesis 2:4 is one of the most powerful and revealing verses of the entire Bible as it pertains to creation itself. In order to see the truth, we have to dig into the original words and trust the very Spirit of God inside us to speak and reveal the meaning. We have to let go of all we know and have been taught by man and just listen to the Spirit as he shows us true meaning of the written word. This is often lost in man’s translation and even more in his religious beliefs he imposes on the Word of God.

I have found the most powerful truth revealed to me by Jesus about Genesis 1 and 2 as it pertains to this current World (and man himself) under law and in darkness. From Genesis 2:5 on we make a powerful switch to a lower realm, law-based reality under darkness (death) that is separated from the true reality or true substance of God himself.

Anytime we are separated from God, we die.

The only way we can live is if God himself causes us to be in union with him. This will occur and has occurred in the new and true reality of the true covenant God himself put in place with man, our true inner man of the spirit or heart. Not, the false outer man of the body and fallen soul. The entire false, “old” or “outer” reality from Genesis 2:4 on will disappear. This is the false reality of this current world system based on man’s effort to sustain a dying body and his dying kingdom under law.

I pray you see that behind this current creation and world system of darkness, there is a TRUE version of everything that is hidden from our eyes and is within us. All of us. It is eternal and forever in union with God himself according to Colossians 3:11. Christ truly IS all and IN all. Ponder this. It’s beautiful. The entire current system and version and form of all things will die and disappear, but then the true reality of all things will be revealed.

This true reality is only found in Christ and this was done by God himself and not by man or any part of man’s will. Man’s will exists in the false version of the outer man which is part of the current version or form of “earth” (body) and “heaven” (soul). This will perish and die. Paul tells us this “dual-action” of both life and death occurring in us at the same time in 2 Cor 4:16

Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day 2 Cor 4:16

Eventually, the outer man for all people will be fully decayed through the process of death (under law). When this does, the following verse will be manifest and all people will see and receive eternal life. They will have no “human will” of the outer man left to resist him.

And all people will see God’s salvation Luke 3:6

This will be the happiest day of all mankind when God himself will reveal his Son inside them. All will know and have Eternal life!

God bless you my friend.
