If I were God, was all-powerful, and I truly loved all people and wanted them to be with me forever, how would I cause this to occur?
What if I made a person’s imperfection or what the Bible calls “sin” their “free ticket” to receive my OWN perfect righteousness and thus be with me forever? Do you think they would be thankful when they found out about this free eternally good gift?
If I were God, would I have the power to do this? Wouldn’t this be a “foolproof” plan?
Now, certainly, I am not smarter than God, right?
Could this be his hidden plan that is just now being revealed? Let’s look into this and see exactly what this mysterious power called “sin” is that lives inside of all of us. Paul shares his personal struggle (and the struggle of all of us) with this power that “makes its home in me” in Romans 7:17.
Now YET no longer I am effecting IT but the making its home in me SIN Romans 7:17
First, please notice the word “it” right in the middle of this verse. What is “it”? We will come back to this.
These words of Paul are the words I think I have returned to more often than any other. Why do we sometimes (and even “often”) do the things that hurt ourselves and others?
Why do I sometimes do the things I don’t want to do? Is “sin” an immoral action or is it an actual spiritual POWER that is living inside us that is beyond our control and much more powerful than we are in our own will? We know what man teaches, but what does the Word of God teach?
According to Paul in Romans 7, there IS a spiritual power living inside us causing us to do “the things I don’t want to do”. Paul says “we have been sold as slaves to it’s power” in Romans 7:14.
“It” is called the power of sin and according to Paul it is “making its HOME inside me” (and you). This mysterious power is in control and I am not.
What is “it” that is “dwelling in me” and is called the “power of sin”?
What TRULY is “the power of Sin” that is “making its home inside me”?
Is this power working AGAINST God’s will and plan or is our powerful father God using it FOR his own eternally good purposes of saving the world and all people in it?
Is it possible that “the power of sin” is God’s own Spirit and perfect spiritual Law living inside us revealing that as humans we will always “miss the mark” (sin) yet ultimately WIN through our failure?
Let’s look at his ORIGINAL words he gave us to find out about Gods powerful secret of the redemption of mankind.
The truth of the Word will absolutely astonish you, if you can believe it at face value exactly as the words say. Let’s go back to Romans 7:17 and look at the actual words.
Did you notice the word “it” right in the middle?
What is “it” that dwells inside us and is causing us to “do what we don’t want to do”?
Well, this word appears 57 times in the New Testament and the most amazing occurrences are in Matthew 12:11, 14:12, Mark 6:29, and the epic verses (where it appears multiple times) of Luke 23:53 (3 times) and John 14:17 (3 times!). When the Lord says or reveals something 3 times, we must pay close attention.
Let’s look at these verses in their original words to find out exactly what is “it”, that is “dwelling in me” causing “me to do the things I don’t want to”. Remember, no scripture does us any good unless we believe it.
Please just accept the words exactly as they are and (for now) don’t worry about the question of “how?”! “How” is God’s part. Our part is to just to receive his words and to “believe them as a child would”. Here are some other key verses with the same Greek word “it” in them.
Are you seeing a common theme for what “it” is so far – is (spiritual) body?
Are we possibly the “living tomb” of God carrying his dying (spiritual) body around? Ponder that as you read this verse.
We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body 2 Cor 4:10
Are you ready for the final and crowning achievement of what “it” is that “dwells in me” (and you)?
Let me warn you that this is very hard (actually IMPOSSIBLE) to believe with our natural minds. So, what ultimately is “it” that dwells within us?
There we have it.
The Word of God reveals that the very power of sin that dwells inside me is “it”, which is – the SPIRIT of TRUTH!
It is even more than this as we will soon see.
Now, again, the next thing our natural minds will ask is “HOW CAN THIS BE?” Please do NOT reject the Word of God because you can not (yet) answer this question. This is what keeps people (especially Christians) living in the bondage of unbelief. The standard “Christian” has been trained NOT to believe many verses that are simply “to good to be true”. They read the verse and it is obvious what it says, but the want “assurance” from their pastor or “teacher” so they go to them and ask them. They tell them a standard “Christian definition of unbelief” or what Jesus called “the traditions of man” which thus “nullify the word of God”. .
Thus you nullify the word of God by the tradition you have handed down. And you do so in many such matters.” Mark 7:13
1 Cor 15:22 is just ONE example that the current Church will NOT allow a person to believe. And there are hundreds more. You could give those words to a child and they would know what they mean yet we act STUPID as adults when we read them.
Let’s expand this truth a bit further and look at what Paul tells us in 1 Cor 15:56 about the “power of sin” and what it is.
The YET sting of the Death (is) sin, the YET power of the sin (is) The Law 1 Cor 15:56
What is the power of sin that is “making its home inside me”?
Could “the Law” and the “Spirit of Truth” be one and the same? My heart screams YES!
The power of sin that dwells inside us is Gods Spirit of truth and “The Law” of God. It reveals God’s perfect standards that we can NOT uphold and thus reveals our own inability to “hit the mark” and “not sin”.
As long as we are naturally alive, the Law is the Lord of us. The perfect law living inside us is what is causing our death (and then our new life)!
Or are you ignorant brothers, (for I speak to those knowing the law), that the law rules over the man for as long as the time he is alive? Romans 7:1
It’s really so simple that we can’t believe it. We want it to be complex and not easily understood. However, it can be understood if you take the simple approach “as a child” would. Just believe the words he gave us at face value without reading into them to deeply or changing them.
The power of sin that dwells inside us is THE LAW but also the Spirit of truth. This is amazing because of what this power will ultimately do FOR and TO us. And it was given to us when we personally encountered and ate from the tree of the Knowledge of good and evil in Genesis 3:6. This tree is “beautiful to the eyes” and totally irresistible. Most amazingly is that in the original words, the tree is a “he”. The only way we can see this is to read the original words because the English translators totally ignored the word “HE” in thousands of places.
Let’s look at the original words of Genesis 3:6.
So, who is “He” that is the “tree” who is that is “yearning to the (spiritual) eyes”?
I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing John 15:5
Did you notice in Genesis 3:6 that there was no time limit on “not eating” of the irresistible tree that is “he”? This test was to go on forever and was impossible for man to carry out. This the very fulfilling of the law and it demands perfect obedience forever which is impossible for man to do.
(From a human perspective) Would God really make powerful, SPIRITUAL tree that is totally irresistible and then place it right next to us and leave us alone with a SERPENT TO TEMPT and TEST US and then condemn us when we fall?
Why would a God who defines himself as “love” put us into a position we would fail 100% of the time?
Or did our father God who IS LOVE, put it there knowing we could NOT resist it and by eating of it, we secured our own ETERNAL redemption?
Is it possible that Gods ways are NOT our ways and that through this “failure” (setup by God himself), we will ultimately succeed (but not by our own strength)? Is God made perfect in our strength or our weakness? Look at 2 Cor 12:9
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me 2 Cor 12:9
Do you see how me must be made WEAK in order for God to be strong? Did this fruit of the tree of “He” make us weaker or stronger?
So, who is “he” that is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, the tree that is “being coveted” and “consumed” into our bodies?
Ponder this verse in light of these thoughts and ideas.
He made the One not having known sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God in him 2 Cor 5:21
Could the “him” be the same “he” that is the tree of Genesis 3:6?
Well, let’s go back to 1 Cor 15:56 and Romans 7:17. What exactly did we consume and take into our (spiritual and natural) bodies?
And it’s fruit originates from the tree who is “He”.
Are you seeing how this all ties together into a PERFECT plan of salvation for all people who “sin”?
They consume the seed of “him” which is the Law from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and this seed and power of the law then lives inside them. “It” is much more powerful than they are as Paul attests to in Romans 7:17 and I am sure none of us disagree with that.
We are actually consuming the law of God from WITHIN us where the tree of knowledge of good and evil. This is the POWER of sin.
“The POWER of sin is THE Law” and it has been implanted into the minds and hearts of all people. It kills all natural things that live “under it” because its’ demands are perfect and can not be met by the natural. Only the Lord himself who IS THE “HE” and THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH can fulfill its perfect requirements.
We are “the body” (of him).
But, don’t worry, “HE” is inside you in “the garden” of the mind called “paradise”. When you and I leave this dying body and world on this spiritual day, we will be WITH HIM in paradise (Eden).
And He said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.” Luke 23:43
That’s right, again, the Kingdom of God is WITHIN or INSIDE you (and I). Luke 17:21. When we die, we won’t go “up” to the sky, we will go Inside and up the stairs that Solomon built and enter through the “portal” (often mistranslated as “door”).
Looking at the Power of Sin another way (Gods way)
We all have the power of sin living inside us. This is why we do things that hurt both ourselves and others. This is also why we die. We have the perfect requirements of the law living inside us, but we can not fulfill them. Our dying bodies (and natural, self-life) are our own LIVING sacrifice and ongoing atonement for our sin. Romans 12:1.
This power of sin that lives inside us came from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. This tree is “HE” in the original words and we consume the fruit of “him” in our minds and bodies.
This is Gods unfailing and PERFECT plan for the salvation of ALL people. This is what WILL fulfill 1 Cor 15:22 and save all people of all time. Put them inside the first Adams dying body under the power of sin so that they will ultimately live in the “last Adams” body and life (Christ).
For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive 1 Cor 15:22
God made “him” to be sin so that when we consume “him” (sin) we would become the RIGHTEOUSNESS of God inside him.
God made our failure HIS and OUR ultimate, eternal success and redemption!
Blinded by the law – Should we just sin then so we can be “saved”?
I can already hear the first thing that many Christian teachers will bring up to attempt to dispute this truth. They will bring up Romans 6:1.
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? Romans 6:1
They will say “if that is true, then we might as well all sin so that we can be saved”. To that I answer “go ahead, you are free to and you already are doing so“.
Go and “sin” all you want, however you may define it.
I would also invite you to make a list of the things that YOU do that are NOT sin. Is it possible that you are deceived into thinking that some things you do to appear righteous to others are actually sin(ful)? All it takes is ONE sin and you are as SINFUL as the person who willfully disobeys God. The Lord knows our hearts and our motives behind all we do. All of creation is naked and bare before him. All of us are either answering to him now in our hearts or will soon when we stand in front of him.
Also, please remember that our bodies are still natural and still exist in the natural world that is based upon natural laws of cause and effect, sowing and reaping. We can NOT get away from the natural effects that we cause. The power of sin is the reason our bodies die in the first place. If you desire to “sin more”, go ahead. It will only cause your death to occur faster.
How fast do you want to die? You simply can NOT get around the perfect law of God.
Finally, I am not sure that you understand the true and sovereign power of the Lord God. You can not even have a SINGLE thought without him giving it to you. Look at and believe the powerful statement that John makes in John 3:27.
John answered and said, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given him from heaven John 3:27
If a person does not believe in the sovereign power of God, then this message is NOT for them. They will not believe it anyway. Sadly, they will also miss the goodness of God as well.
But, that is not you my friend.
You know that God is our father and he is all-powerful, that all the powers of darkness report directly to him to do HIS perfect will, that he is very GOOD, that he IS love, and that he WILL grant repentance and salvation to all. 2 Peter 3:9. However, there is a perfect order and “timing” to the salvation of each person and it occurs in “each persons time” as God has preordained. 1 Tim 2:6
At this “proper time” this work of the Lord appears from within – INSIDE a person’s heart and mind once their outer “ground” (natural body and life) is “worked up” under the “tribulations of life” and is ready to receive the seed of God already planted within. James 1:21
Through his (and our) death, we ALL shall live! Sin is the POWER OF (HIS) DEATH that will ultimately SAVE US.
So, are Gods ways much higher than ours? If this is true, is this good news for all?
